Description
Here’s what a friend of mine had to say about it after playing a game!
“I recently played a round of Normandy Firefight, taking on the role of a German patrol of 4 Landsers armed with Kar98Ks and a single MP40. My opponent controlled a 5-man American patrol equipped with M1 Garands, a Thompson, and a M1 carbine. The mission was to locate and search a white scout car that had been knocked out by a mine while carrying an intel officer, clear any sensitive maps, and retreat off the table edge.
As the game began, the Americans advanced cautiously, one moving while the other covered. The Germans spread out and took pot shots to keep the Americans at bay. Two GIs pushed through a hedge and made a dash for the exposed scout car, bullets flying past them as they took cover behind it and began searching inside. Meanwhile, their sergeant kept the Germans pinned with his M1 carbine, trading fire with the German sergeant’s MP40.
In a bocage-lined lane, the US officer unleashed a hail of fire with his Thompson, pinning down my single Landser in a ditch. When he tried to advance, a grenade was thrown his way, sending him diving back into the ditch. The explosion bought the search team time to fall back. I managed to hit one of the Americans, but only nicked him, and he kept running.
The retreat was intense, a second GI was hit in the chest but fought on bravely with his M1 Garand. I attempted to throw a stick grenade after the Americans, but it missed wildly, and the US troops were last seen sprinting away up the lane, rescued maps in hand.
In the firefight, I lost 1 man killed in action, another wounded and captured, a third man was lightly wounded but able to withdraw, with just one man surviving unscathed. The US had two wounded: one scratched and one with a serious chest wound.
The rules of the game played smoothly, and it was an exciting and engaging firefight. The quick and detailed gameplay kept the action intense, and the use of historical weapons and tactics added to the realism of the experience.”
