The Barons’ War is a 28mm medieval skirmish game that brings to life the historical events of the First Barons’ War of 1215-17. Written by Andy Hobday, this game enables narrative-driven tabletop experiences set in an England gripped by civil war, played out against the backdrop of the Magna Carter and the invasion by the Crown Prince of France. In the Kingdom of England by 1215, a group of powerful barons had reached breaking point due to King Johns despotic rule, high taxes and failed leadership. It was time to rebel!
The Barons’ War is a skirmish level game where 1 model equals 1 man and is D10 based. The game is designed to have historically accurate gameplay that is fast-paced and tactical while still simple and fun. Standard sized playing forces are between 15 and 40 models and battles are played out on a 4×3 area with a fair amount of terrain. There are clear diagrams throughout the book to clearly explain the mechanics of gameplay and includes a glossary, an index, a quick reference page, a host of scenarios and retinue lists with a wide range of troop options. With warriors of this period being pretty similar, it is easy to base your medieval skirmish games using these rules in many different settings.
